This week we have a new release as part of the New in Calxa updates. Our team has improved the usability of budgets in Calxa. Nothing drastic but a group of small changes that will make your work easier and more consistent. Also, we’ve added transactions to our Business Central integration. As a result, you can now report on any of the dimensions you have set up.

New in Calxa: A Series of Budget Improvements

Budgeting being a key task for many finance teams, it is important for us at Calxa to keep sight of how we can improve efficiencies in this area or our software.

Adjustable column widths

We’ve added a setting for column width in the Budgets & Actuals screen so you can make them wider if you have big numbers or narrower if you want to show more months. This setting is remembered by user between sessions so you can set it once and it will be there till you change it.

More remembered settings

When you use the bulk actions to expand or collapse your accounts, we will now remember this setting as you navigate to other business units or views. Each time you return to Calxa, you’ll start with the levels you had when you last used it.

Expanded keyboard shortcuts

Sometimes the old-fashioned keyboard shortcut is the quickest way to perform an action and we’ve added more to the Budgets & Actuals screen. This should delight those of you who are nostalgic for WordStar!

Keyboard Shortcut Action
F Toggle full screen mode
E Show or hide empty rows
I Show or hide inactive rows
Ctrl+1 Collapse all
Ctrl+2 Expand level 2
Ctrl+3 Expand level 3
Ctrl+4 Expand all
[ Decrease width of all value columns
] Increase width of all value columns
Shift+Mouse Wheel Scroll horizontally when a horizontal scrollbar is present

Improvements to Business Central Transaction Sync

We have switched the Business Central sync from monthly totals to individual transactions. This has a few benefits for you:

  • Faster sync times as we only import changes since the last sync
  • Access to any dimensions you are using in Business Central, not just the 2 main ones
  • Our Transaction detail report to show the transactions within Calxa

New in Calxa Coming Soon: Commentary on Reports

In mid-November we will launch a big update to how you add comments to reports. You’ll be able to add them to a bundle and choose between:

  • Inline comments in a separate column beside the numbers
  • Index numbers and footnotes
  • A text box with full formatting options at the top or bottom of the report

This will be a big change and one many of you have been waiting for.  We have a webinar to explain how it all works on Wednesday 2 December. If you can’t make that date, register and we’ll send the recording. But there will also be plenty of help material.

To see the recent changes, look out for our change logs with all the details. There’s lots more we’re working on and coming up as new in Calxa over the next few months.

Ultimately, we want to deliver what will help you get your work done easier. So, feel free to give us unsolicited suggestions at any time. Some will take time to implement. However, sometimes we get ideas from customers that are very simple to change and make a big difference.
