Within 3 days of its release, the Unit Costing for Dummies hit 268 eBook downloads. Calxa initially soft launched the workbook to its own customer base in the spirit of sharing knowledge within its own network.
The eBook is now ready to be unleashed onto the not-for-profit sector in an attempt to help organisations prepare for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Unit costing plays a vital role in pricing activities under the new scheme and is considered paramount in the planning for sustainability of not-for-profit organisations. Calxa CEO, Mick Devine, says “We are not surprised at the success of the booklet. The desire for information and knowledge is well and truly awake in the sector.”
The booklet underpins the collaboration between MYOB and Calxa to deliver an accounting solution for not-for-profits that drills into the sector’s specific needs. Mr Devine elaborates, “Calxa wanted to back up their software donation program with a knowledge base. We feel that just delivering software is not enough, the capacity building has to incorporate the teaching as well as the tool.”
Masterclasses using the ‘for Dummies’ workbook are being rolled out Australia wide. Workshops in conjunction with the NSW Council of Social Services (NCOSS) had their inception last year and continue to run throughout New South Wales and online. The next round of major workshops are kick-starting at the upcoming Connecting Up Conference in May where MYOB and Calxa specialists will take to the stage delivering learnings that target CEOs, Board Members and Finance Teams. The focus will be on identifying clear metrics to enable activity costing, scenario planning to find break-even points and forecasting cash positions to support informed decision-making. MYOB CEO, Tim Reed, states in the book’s foreword, “This book will be a great help to you in your role as CEO or board member where you need to know the costs of the services you provide.”
Help us spread the word to facilitate a healthier and stronger sector. We appreciate your efforts in disseminating this message across your readership.
